Laura is a freelance designer and independent business coach specializing in small and medium sized retail flower shops. A veteran of the floral industry Laura has dedicated her career to educating and enriching the lives of floral professionals. Learning the basics of floral design as a child gave her a love of everything floral. Beginning a professional floral career in 1988 Laura specialized in wedding and event design for several years, going on to found Parker Floral School & Design Co. a vocational training school and a full-service retail flower shop. She spent over 13 years teaching floral design through the vocational training school. Laura spent five years as a part of the Flora magazine team as a contributing writer and featured designer.
In 1998, Laura earned accreditation by the Michigan Floral Association as a Michigan Certified Florist. Laura attained accreditation and was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Design in 2000. She holds a degree in Business Administration and Management. Laura has served on the Michigan Certified Florist Development Team, and MCF Standing Committee, the Michigan Floral Association Spring Conference Planning Committees, Board of Directors for the Michigan Unit of Teleflora and currently serves as Treasurer for the North Central Chapter of AIFD and editor of the North Central AIFD Newsletter.
An award-winning designer, Laura has competed in the Teleflora Ruby Dunstan Design Contest, the Michigan Floral Association Professional Competition, earning a spot in the Michigan Floral Association Designer of the Year competition in 2006 and 2007. Laura was recognized as the 2007 Michigan Floral Association “Designer of the Year“ and has earned entry into the Academy level of floral design competition in Michigan.
